Bulverism

A correspondent wisely reminds us of C S Lewis's essay on 'Bulverism'. You can get to Lewis's original paper via Wikipedia. Bulverism is a phenomenon of which every person should be aware who finds themself* rebutting the logical incoherence of the Zeitgeist.

"I make no apology for this curious usage."
Well, you jolly well ought to.

LBS: quite right. Apology demanded!

But how very acute to draw attention to Bulverism! (It is a method of pseudo-reasoning much beloved by SSPX hard-liners.) It leads me to reflect that too much academic talent is diverted to the rules for right thinking, and too little on the anatomy of pathologies in right thinking - and their emotional causes.

We live in times - as always! - in which we need always to be on our guard against the mechanisms by which the Enemy confuses and corrupts our thoughts. We are right, I think, to resile from any conclusion that is exclusively supported by such.
