Best foot forward

What a very moving occasion Bishop Andrew's Mass was this morning. What a lot of people full of enthusiasm for the journey ahead. Especially the young people.

Perhaps most moving, at the end, when Bishop Andrew left his mitre and crosier at our Lady's feet.

Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, Sancta Dei Genetrix: nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus, sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriosa et benedicta.

Just in case you're interested Father here is Tolkien's translation of the Sub tuum praesidium into Quenya:

Ortírielyanna rucimme, Aina Eruontari. Alalye nattira arcandemmar sangiessemman, ono alye eterúna me illume ilya raxellor, alcarin Vénde ar manaquenta. Násie.

It was a wonderful and poignant occasion. Following Patricius, I was reminded of Galadriel's words to the travellers regarding her own life- "Together... we have fought the long defeat." A good epitaph on the Catholic movement in the Church of England. I trust you will pray, Father, that like Galadriel I may be received back after disobedient self-exile.

Nai hiruvalye Valimar!
